November 12th Abstract Series

Paint an Abstract Series with Ruth Andre

No Scrap Left Behind!

The class will experiment using painted paper to make a series of small works that can be framed or used to embellish folded greeting cards. Each student will learn how to find interesting compositions within a larger painting.

We will start by painting randomly on paper using 3 or 4 paint colors. We will then alter the work using the basics of value and composition to make a series of smaller paintings. You will learn new ways to find ideas for your abstract paintings. Get ready to have some fun and take home three small works.

Sunday, November 12th from 1pm – 4pm

“My art career continues to expand and change with subjects and mediums. I painted traditional animal portraiture and landscape works in oil for several years. As time went on my paintings became more abstract. I was fighting to stay on point until one day I let the work show itself. Oil paint changed to oil and cold wax and then to acrylic on paper, canvas, and wood panels. There is a strength in the new paintings that is coming from my very core to express who I am.”

Ruth studied design at the University of Long Beach and print making at Otis/Parson School of Design. She has worked in the arts as an art representative in Los Angeles. She continues to paint daily and is now a featured artist with The Art Spirit Gallery in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho.
