Yeiser Art Center is proud to announce that Executive Director, Lexie Millikan, Lower Town Arts & Music Festival Music Director, Seth Murphy, and The Wheelhouse Rousters will be participating in the Jinju World Folk Arts Biennale in Jinju, Gyeongsang Province, South Korea from October 15th- 22nd, 2022. Although there are many miles between the two, Jinju and Paducah have one thing in common: UNESCO Creative City status! The opportunity for these creative professionals to travel to and participate in this event was a result of being a part of the UNESCO Creative Cities network. The group will be participating in the event by performing over the course of the week in various venues around Jinju, including the Gyeongnam Culture & Arts Center and the Jinjuseong Fortress.
The host city for this event will generously be covering airfare, lodging, ground transportation, and meals while in Korea. However, there are many other expenses that are associated with this kind of international travel. Therefore we are asking for your help to ease any additional financial burden the group may incur during their domestic travel within the US, on their way to and from the airport, extra luggage costs, and the cost of instrument rentals.
During the duration of the trip, the participants from Paducah will also get to partake in an exchange workshop with the goal of strengthening international cooperation through culture among UNESCO Creative Cities. Performing groups will be attending from the following locations:
Sukothai, Thailand Paducah, USA Ougadougou, Burkina Faso Aswan, Egypt Baguio, Philippines Ambon, Indonesia Bida, Nigeria
The impact of participation in these kinds of UNESCO Creative Cities events is difficult to sum up because it is tied to so many different things. Just to name a few: -helps boost Paducah, and Kentucky tourism -shares the rich traditions of western Kentucky with the world -gives artists and performers the chance to expand their network and opportunities within the arts -creates a stronger network for international collaboration -broadens the ideas and perspectives of those involved in the events who can then share those experiences in their own communities.
By contributing to this fundraiser, you are making it possible for Yeiser Art Center to provide a small stipend to this group of creative people, to help make their trip a success. The participants will be representing the arts, music, and creative culture of Paducah, KY on an international stage and that is something to be proud of!
Whether you donate $5 or $500. Every little bit helps. Thank you for your support.
